about us

Who we are

Neighborhood Parents for the Hurley School Incorporated is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation. We are an all-volunteer organization made up of parents and other communtiy members.

How we got started

Neighborhood Parents for the Hurley is a grassroots organization started and run by parents interested in the advantages of a public education in the city. In January 2003, Anne Kirby, a South End mother of two young children, met Richard Hall, then the Hurley School/Parent Liason, who had been working to attract more neighborhood children to the school. Soon after their meeting, Anne began contacting and introducing potential parents to one another. At subsequent information sessions and meetings, many more parents became enthusiastic about the Hurley and looked for ways to become involved.

What we do

Our goal is to build on the Hurley’s many strong points to make it the finest public elementary school in central Boston, providing a high quality education to students from all backgrounds. We work with Principal Marjorie Soto, the teachers and administrative staff to publicize the school, increase local enrollment, enhance and augment the school’s proven curriculum, continue upgrading its facilities, build corporate and university partnerships, find donors for needed supplies and equipment, and attract volunteers and tutors.

How to learn more/get involved

The Hurley School could be an ideal place for your child. It offers an innovative, dual language immersion program where native English-speaking and Spanish-speaking children learn side-by-side, guided by some of the most highly qualified teachers in Massachusetts.
